EsophyX System - Cutting Edge Long Term Acid Reflux Treatment
Approximately 14 million Americans experience symptoms of GERD, including
heartburn and esophageal inflammation, on a daily basis. Most manage their
acid reflux disease with medications such as H2 blockers and proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).
Since pharmacological therapy does not treat the underlying root causes of
acid reflux, the deteriorated anatomy of the antireflux barrier, life-long medication
therapy is required. Although acid reflux surgery is highly effective, it is also very
invasive, despite the laparoscopic surgical approach. For this reason, less than
1% of the patients choose acid reflux surgery to repair the anatomical defect(s)
that cause GERD.
The GERD program of Long Island Minimally Invasive Surgery, one of New York’s
most reputable programs, is located on the North Shore of Long Island. It is one
of the first centers in the entire United States trained to perform the new
Esophyx - Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication (TIF). This is one of the
premiere centers in the United States to undergo cutting edge endoscopic
procedures for acid reflux treatment.
Our spacious facility is staffed with two full time
surgeons - Shawn Garber, MD
FACS and Spencer Holover, MD; each with extensive experience in laparoscopic
surgery, and both recognized as leaders in the field of endoluminal and
minimally invasive surgery, particularly in the New York area.
